AI skills
Give your coding agent the playbook
One downloadable skill pack teaches AI coding tools how to write, debug, and migrate Spring Kafka integration tests with Wiretap — verified against the library source and kept in step with each release.
One skill pack
The pack is a portable folder with a SKILL.md entrypoint that Cursor and Claude Code load as a native skill. Every other tool can read the same files as durable project context. It covers three jobs from one place:
- Write, debug, and extend tests — the
@EnableWiretapKafkaBrokerannotation, topic declaration and seeding, the publisher and reader, listener readiness, the full assertion vocabulary, everywiretap.test.*property, bean overrides, mock Schema Registry for Avro, retry/DLT flows, and parallel-execution rules. - Migrate an existing suite — move off
@EmbeddedKafka, Testcontainers Kafka, hand-rolledKafkaTemplateandKafkaConsumerscaffolding, orCountDownLatchandThread.sleeptiming hacks, with a step-by-step runbook, common pitfalls, and before/after examples. - Upgrade from
spring-kafka-test-utils4.x — the pack triggers on the old names too (@SharedKafkaBroker,spring.kafka.test.*,io.gitlab.guisseppe) and carries the complete old-to-new mapping: coordinates, packages, annotation, properties, and what deliberately keeps its old name.
Download
The archive tracks the current release (5.2.3). Download it, unzip it into your agent's skills folder, and point the agent at SKILL.md.
What is inside
The pack has a familiar shape: a SKILL.md entrypoint, a compact API cheatsheet, focused guides, a migration runbook, worked examples, drop-in tool configs, and an eval set.
| Property | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
SKILL.md | — | Entrypoint: which module to import, the trigger description, reading order, the migration workflow, and quick links. |
CHEATSHEET.md | — | The public API map — annotation, topic configuration, publishing, reading, listener readiness, assertions, properties — verified against the source, with a migration quick reference and the 4.x-to-5.0 rename table. |
guides/ | — | Focused task guides, one per job, pulled in on demand from SKILL.md rather than loaded all at once. |
migration/ | — | The migration runbook — from @EmbeddedKafka and from spring-kafka-test-utils 4.x — plus common pitfalls and a phased agent workflow. |
examples/ | — | Runnable Java fixtures adapted from the library’s own integration tests, including before/after migration pairs. |
evals/ | — | The scenario set the pack is scored against, so regressions in the guidance are caught with the release. |
Native skill loaders
Cursor and Claude Code discover a downloaded skill folder directly. Use a project-local folder when the whole team should share the same guidance, or the home directory for a personal install.
Claude Code — .claude/skills
mkdir -p .claude/skills
curl -L -o /tmp/wiretap.zip \
https://wiretap-assets.typecheck.io/5.2.3/wiretap-5.2.3.zip
unzip -o /tmp/wiretap.zip -d .claude/skills
claude skills listCursor — .cursor/skills
mkdir -p .cursor/skills
curl -L -o /tmp/wiretap.zip \
https://wiretap-assets.typecheck.io/5.2.3/wiretap-5.2.3.zip
unzip -o /tmp/wiretap.zip -d .cursor/skillsRepository guidance
Codex, Antigravity, Kiro and similar tools work best when their normal project guidance points at the checked-in skill entrypoint rather than pasting the whole playbook. Keep the skill folder in the repository and route the agent to it.

When writing, debugging, or migrating Spring Kafka integration tests, read:
- skills/wiretap/SKILL.md # start here
- skills/wiretap/CHEATSHEET.md # the API map
- skills/wiretap/guides/ # the focused guide for the task at hand
- skills/wiretap/migration/ # when migrating an existing suite, including
# spring-kafka-test-utils 4.x -> Wiretap 5.0

For Spring Kafka integration tests with Wiretap, use the downloaded skill pack
as the source of truth. Start with wiretap/SKILL.md, then pull the focused
guides (guides/) or the migration runbook (migration/) it links to — the
runbook covers upgrading a spring-kafka-test-utils 4.x suite as well as
moving off @EmbeddedKafka.Migrating a suite by hand instead? Start with the migration guide. Each release page also carries a copy-pasteable migration prompt scoped to that version — see releases.
